Every five years we de-rig Juno’s masts and transport them back to the boatyard for detailed inspection, refurbish and re-varnish. The last time the spars were lifted off was in 2013 prior to our long voyage down to the West Country and back.
Earlier this week Charlie Ward and Neil Thompson de-rigged the mainmast down to three lower shrouds and yesterday the mast was craned off and it is now back in Charlie’s boatyard at Morston. It was a very smooth operation (see video below) supervised by Neil – many thanks for all your help Neil! The mizzen mast and bowsprit will be removed shortly by teleporter.
Unfortunately no masts means there will be no Christmas lights on Juno this year!
